荒野医学 and Rescue

The 荒野医学 and Rescue major is designed for students interested in applying medical, 应急管理, and 救援 skills to a career in the outdoors. This program seeks to train students for practice in low-resource environments and prepares them for work in fields like backcountry guiding, 搜救, 滑雪/自行车巡逻, 公园护林员服务, local and federal government, 和更多的. It is one of the only majors in the country that combines elements of outdoor recreation management, emergency medical services, 救援, 和消防.

The interdisciplinary program combines courses in emergency medical services and Outdoor Recreation Management with an emphasis on risk management and wilderness medicine. Part of the program includes gaining technical skills in at least five outdoor sports, including hiking and backpacking, 攀岩, 山地自行车, 或划独木舟. You will learn how to conduct 救援 operations in low-resource environments likes mountains, 森林, 和河流.

The courses and certifications will prepare you to pursue an exciting career providing medical assistance to outdoor adventurers, or make the transition to paramedic training or medical school.

The "classroom" for the 荒野医学 and Rescue major is actually the wilderness! From the certification courses to the technical skills classes, you'll spend most of your time in the field, learning how to take charge in intense situations. 除了, 美高梅博彩 has strong connections with local state parks, the North Carolina Forest Service, Beech Mountain Ski Resort, and various 搜救 operations.
